Questions quietly drifted across the track: What went wrong? Was anyone else hurt? A rumor floated, later confirmed, that the driver wasn't wearing a HANS Device. I was briefly astonished, then my gut went hollow: I hadn't worn one, either.

Another brilliant piece from Sam.

I always cringe when I hear about someone paying a permanent debt for a mistake in judgement. The truth is we all have made bad calls, most of us just get lucky, live and learn.

I've had the same attitude towards buying a HANS device, too. I'm not going to risk it anymore. Even the fact that the tracks I have driven have good runoff areas isn't an excuse not to get one. Bad things can happen regardless.

I love and hate stories like this because they help others learn but that means that we all have so much to learn too. In our everlasting quest to be fastest and best we keep forgetting to be safest. This applies to motorcycles as well. ATGATT should be a new widely used phrase for us opponauts.
